Minnesota Military Appreciation Fund

I recently read about a Minnesota businessman who has started a wonderful organization here. The Minnesota Military Appreciation Fund offers grants starting at $500 to Minnesota soldiers who have served in a combat zone since 9/11/01.

According to the website: "The grants represent the state’s appreciation for their service and are not based solely upon need. The grant amounts will vary, however, according to the level of hardship endured as a result of combat zone deployment." (i.e., more injury=more money)

Minnesota is the only state with a fund like this, although the governor has written to his 49 counterparts suggesting they follow suit. It would be wonderful if South Dakota had one so Jon could benefit, but maybe this is something that will catch on.
